Gods Election of Grace for You!
The Scripture speaks of three areas of election by God. First, the election of individuals to office or to honor and privilege. For example Abraham, Jacob, Saul, David, Solomon, were all chosen by God for the positions they held and also were the apostles.
Second there is also an election of nations to special privileges. The obvious example being the Hebrews.
"Deuteronomy 7:6 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth."
Thirdly, in addition there is an election of individuals to eternal life.
"2 Thessalonians 2:13-14: 13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
"Ephesians 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:"
"1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied."
The basis of this election to salvation is the good pleasure of God.
“Ephesians 1:5, 11 - 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:"
God claims the right so to do.
"Romans 9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy., 21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?"
Our election is not conditioned on faith or repentance, but is of sovereign grace.
"Romans 11:4-6: 4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal. 5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work."
"Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved."
All that pertains to our salvation, the means as well as the end result, are of God.
"Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast."
"2 Thessalonians 2:13-14: 13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: 14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ."
"2 Timothy 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will."
"Ephesians 2:5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;), 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."
"1 Corinthians 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord."
Faith and repentance and all other graces are the exercised power from God of a regenerated soul and the regeneration is God's work, a new creature, born again. Men are elected by God to salvation, to the adoption of sons, and to be holy and without blame before him in love.
"Galatians 4:4-7: 4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. 6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth
the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ."
"Ephesians 1:4-7: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;"
The ultimate end of our election by God is the praise of God's grace. God knows your heart and He knew everything about you before the creation of the heavens and the earth. God's call to you is through the Word of the Gospel. It is His Word that dispels the darkness in and around our lives in order that we can receive His Word. If anyone ever has come to you with God's Word, you can rest assured you have been given a call by God. The only effort you have to make is simply believe His Word and confess your belief and God will do the rest.
"Romans 10:9-11: 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."
